Dear I-House Community,
Thank you for your ongoing interest in our beloved I-House and for sharing our vision of a more just and peaceful world. This is the time of year when we ask our global community for financial support. International House is an independent non-profit organization – that doesn’t receive direct funding from UC Berkeley – and relies on the support of our alumni and friends. If you haven’t already, please visit this page to learn how you can make a gift to I-House.
In this newsletter, I am pleased to highlight two extraordinary I-House alumni: Maggie Gee (IH 1950-51) and Ken Taylor (1957-59). Their amazing stories continue to inspire and underscore the global impact of our I-House family.
If you missed our Lodestar Executive Speaker Series “After the Vote: Insights from Women Leaders” last week, featuring former Berkeley City councilmember and I-House alumna Kate Harrison, U.S. Congressmember-elect Lateefah Simon, and former White House deputy chief of staff Maria Echaveste, you can find the replay below and on our YouTube channel.
Congratulations to Nayeli Vivanco, Vice President of the I-House Robertson Center for Intercultural Leadership and Programs, who was awarded a Bronze Stevie Award for the Female Executive of the Year at the 23rd Annual American Business Awards last week in New York. This accolade is a testament to Nayeli’s remarkable work and dedication to I-House and our residents.
If you live nearby or will be in town, please join us at I-House for one of our upcoming events. The annual Resident Benefit Concert, open to the public, will take place on November 20th. Organized by the Resident Community Council, this event will be an unforgettable evening showcasing the remarkable talent within our resident community. Our next Alumni Happy Hour at Edmonds’ Cafe is December 5th. This quarterly event is a superb opportunity to reconnect and network with fellow I-House alumni. Or, if you are looking for an opportunity to gather with friends abroad, check out the link below to UC Berkeley’s International Alumni Network events.
Finally, in this season of food and festivities, I'm thrilled to announce a new chapter in the I-House Cookbook: which features “global comfort food.” This chapter showcases the diverse culinary traditions that unite us and brings a taste of home to our international community. I am also excited to introduce a new blog post, “Breaking Bread; Building bonds: How Food Brings the I-House Community Together,” which explores the powerful connection we find over shared meals.
Thank you, once again, for your support and for being a vital part of the I-House family.
Warm regards,
Shaun R. Carver Ed.D., MBA
