Ukraine Matters: "Culture Vs War" Documentaries Screening

Join us for a documentary series about the impact of the war in Ukraine on Ukrainian artists (musicians, film producers, etc.). This event is in collaboration with the Berkeley-based non-profit, Ukraine Matters, and the Ukrainian Consul General in San Francisco. 

Join us for a panel discussion on China-US Futures: Pathways to Peaceful Coexistence.
Our panelists will explore these challenging and consequential topics:

• Is a cold war inevitable leading to doomsday scenarios?
• Are there pathways to peaceful coexistence? What are they?
• What can be done to build on mutual interests and dampen economic & military confrontation?
• In the context of the I-House mission, how best to prepare the next generations of international leaders and people-to-people solutions?

When: Thursday, November 9, 2023, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. PST
Where: In person at the Chevron Auditorium at International House or live-streamed online

Thanks to the University Section Club and Congratulations to Ibrahim!

Founded in 1927, the University Section Club, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit and a recognized support organization for the University of California, Berkeley, serves the UC Berkeley community in various ways. Eighteen sections from languages to tennis, and birding to pickleball, provide an enjoyable way for members to come together around shared interests. Volunteer activities welcome and support students, international scholars, and their families. Fundraising activities, dues and donations support philanthropy to students, which includes emergency grants, financial support for student groups and programs, and two endowed scholarships. I-House and the Section Club have been partners in service to international students at Cal since the end of World War II. Each academic year, thanks to the generosity of Section Club members, I-House is pleased to provide a partial room and board award from the University Section Club I-House Scholarship. This year’s University Section Club I-House Scholarship recipient, Ibrahim Abdel Wahab, was welcomed at the Section Club’s Fall Reception on September 21, 2023. Ibrahim, who was born in Egypt and raised in Queens, New York, is a biomedical engineer in the joint UC Berkeley-UCSF Master of Translational Medicine program.

Berkeley's Bountiful Bears - A Self-Guided Tour of the Berkeley Bears on Campus

The UC Berkeley website has a visitor services section, which lists the available campus tours. Within this list is a section of self-guided tours, ranging from entire schools within the University to tours of design and art around campus.

A walking tour of the bear statues and other bear artwork on campus piqued my interest. There were 23 bears listed. I decided to undertake the curious expedition over a span of three days. I wanted to take photos of all the bears that I could spot and to pen my experience. It was one of the most pleasing times that I’ve had walking through campus and exploring the nooks and crannies within!
