The I-House Connection: October 2024

October 10, 2024

Dear I-House Community,

I hope this message finds you well and that you’re enjoying the changing seasons wherever you are. Life at I-House has been filled with energy, meaningful connections, and exciting cultural events, and I’d like to share some highlights with you.

I was honored to be interviewed recently by Authority Magazine for their “Celebrating Diversity” series, where I shared how we’re building an inclusive culture here at I-House. In the interview, I highlight our commitment to embracing diverse perspectives and supporting our community of residents representing more than 80 countries. I also speak about the importance of creating safe spaces where everyone feels valued and heard. You can read the full interview here.

The I-House Robertson Resident Life and Intercultural Development Office continues to offer programs for I-House residents that help foster intercultural respect and understanding. Through our Critical Conversations program, residents share and explore differing viewpoints and experiences on sometimes difficult subjects. Every Wednesday evening at the DiversiTea & Coffee Hours, I-House celebrates the cultural backgrounds of our resident population with traditional food, music, dance, crafts, and more.  You can follow our stories on Instagram to catch glimpses and read more about the I-House resident experience in the recent blog post by current I-House resident Eryn Su (IH 2024-25), who is serving as a Global Community Ambassador this year.

This month, I’m happy to introduce a new feature of this newsletter, our Alumni Spotlight, in which we highlight the work of our esteemed alumni who have genuinely advanced the I-House mission in their professional lives. We are proud to celebrate the work and impact of I-House alumni Dr. Victor Santiago Pineda (IH 1999-02) and Dr. Urvashi Sahni (IH 1994). Speaking of our alumni, if you want to show your I-House pride, please visit our new swag shop. We have some fantastic I-House merchandise available. From hats and hoodies to beanies and backpacks, there’s something for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support and for being an invaluable part of this extraordinary community.

Warm regards,

Shaun Carver, I-House Executive Director
