Orientation Leaders

The Orientation Program is offered by the Robertson Resident Life andIntercultural Development Office at International House, UC Berkeley. This program is designed to welcome and support new I-House residents as they transition into the I-Housecommunity. Orientation Leaders play a vital role in fostering connections, sharing resources,and promoting an inclusive environment. The program includes activities to help newresidents adapt to their new reality, as well as opportunities to meet people and have newexperiences Participants will develop leadership and interpersonal skills while contributingto a positive and memorable onboarding experience for new residents.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Pre-Arrival Support: Orientation Leaders connect with new residents before they arrive at I-House, providing a friendly introduction and answering any questions about their upcoming transition.

  • Move-In Day Assistance: Be present to welcome new residents, help them settle in, and ensure their first day at I-House is a smooth and positive experience.

  • Community Integration: Introduce residents to I-House traditions, including the Dining Table Conversations (DTCs), and accompany them to at least one DTC during their first month. Highlight other key activities like International Cultural Festivals (ICF).

  • Campus Resource Guidance: Explain UC Berkeley’s clubs and organizations, providing access to the Callink directory to help them explore extracurricular opportunities

  • Transportation Orientation: Familiarize residents with their Clipper Card benefits, including free rides to San Francisco and other Bay Area destinations.

  • Resident Advisor Introduction: Explain the role of RAs, encourage participation in RA-led activities, and guide new residents to at least one RA-organized event.

  • Personalized Support: Check in with new residents biweekly during their first two months, either in person or via chat, to ensure they feel supported and connected.

Orientation Leaders: Be a continuing I-House resident in Spring 2025

New residents: Be a new I-House resident in Spring 2025

Timeline

New residents 

  • 16 December, 2024: Application Opens

  • 6 January, 2025: Application Closes

  • 13 January, 2025: Move in day and Meet in person your Orientation leader (Optional)

  • First month at I-House: Attend a DiversiTEA and Coffee Hour with your Orientation leader 

  • Bi-weekly check-ins the first 2 months 

  • Meet and Greet with the program participants at the end of January

Continuing Residents

  • 7 January 2025: Assign and match with new residents

  • 13 January, 2025: Move-in day and Meet in person your resident (Optional)
